NATIONAL-QUALIFIERS Kim Yang, Michelle Higgins, Ryan Shelley & Matthew Flynn Thanks to all the parents and divers who helped make our 1st Spring Invitational a success. Although it was sparsely attended, the performances were grand! As mentioned we had four AAU National-qualifying performances and ... we saw many divers try new dives, move out of novice, and some who nearly missed qualifying for Nationals.
"A goal is only worthy as the effort required to achieve it" Those who did Synchro were awesome...it is becoming a spectator and diver favorite and next time, look forward to adding more dives to your synchro lists..:) BADWEST DIVERS meet assessment later...stay tuned... Important note: We condensed the results to three pages, but it was saved with 12 pages & until this is fixed & if you wish to copy the results, remember to just set up copying for just the first three pages) 2009 BadWest Spring Invitational Results 11 April 2009 ~ 1st BADWEST Spring Invitational Meet Our 1st Spring Meet had more than a few headlines - PARENTS SCORE BIG! A hearty thanks to all parents who contributed to the success of our meet. We fully realize how busy the weekend was for all and sincerely appreciate your time..:)
Food and Sales Engineers Medals & Awards Officianados Thanks to Maria Bevacqua (Marina's mom), Trish Richardson (Paige's mom), Faith Chen (Hanna's mom), Kathy & Vince Scuoteguazza (Lindsay's 'rents) for helping out with the medals and running...(I'm sure I missed someone here) Scorers Table & puter progam Gurus And the job that keeps the meet running along and takes the most patience (in my opinion), was aptly handled by newbie Karin Castro (Olivia's mom), Naeem Siddiqui (Adam's mom) and the Scuotequazzas. We all get an "A+" for running a superb meet for all parents and participants...but as always, if there is something we can do better or something we may add in the future, let me know.... Still hoping to get to the point where I am not needed....except to coach...:) Thanks again. DIVER HEADLINES & HIGHLIGHTS for 13 & Unders 5's are a good score. 7& Unders - Calie Brady won her novice contest, showing a super back lineup to nail it down! 9 & Unders - Hannah Chen & Jenny Andrews captured the 9 & under Synchro event and Jenny place a strong 2nd in her individual event, to teammate Olivia Castro who took home the gold with some great high degree of difficulty for her age. 10-11 divers - Paige Richardson & Marina Bevacqua can be 'unoffically' called the New England 11 & Under Synchro Champions - They looked like pros and even outscored the other two 13 & under entries! In their individual event - Marina, Paige and Elisabeth McQuaid (new to J.O.) went 1-2-3 respectively and were not far off from the qualifying score of 150 for Nationals...Congrats to Elisabeth & Paige for trying out their new dive - 104C - double sommie and for Marina's (& the others?) highest score(s) to date.. Novice 10-11 - Way to go to Shawnae Ma for capturing the 10-11 Novice event with an impressive score and some pretty smooth diving (seven 6's and one 7)Shawnae showed a great 401 & 102. Ilana Heller-in her 1st meet?, showed her great improvement and was not far behind in 2nd ( five 6's & seven 5's), with an especially impressive forward sommy and full twister. Newbie Meghan O'Connor, diving in her first meet ever, scored an impressive 72.50 points and finished 4th with eight 5's, followed closely by teammate Hannah Chen @ 72.00, with seven 5's.
12-13 divers - ONE NATIONAL QUALIFIER Novice 12-13 - Jessica placed a respectable third in her individual event, attaining twelve 5's in the contest. Newbie Lauren Davis showed great poise (and smooth entries), placed 4th in her first-ever meet and attained eleven 5's. Another newbie, Erin Santomenna put in her new forward 1 1/2 sommy, placed 5th and had ten 5's. Adam Siddiqui was the sole, undisputed champion of his age group, scoring three 6's and an incredible thirteen 5's-5 1/2's. And finally our 12-13 Champion and National level diver Kim Yang was simply outstanding and had her highest national-qualifying score ever!!! Two 8's, five 7's, seven 6 1/2's will do that for you :) Way to go to all 13 & Unders! 14-15 divers - Lindsay Scuoteguazza & Kim Yang looked, well, synchronized, enroute to the gold in the synchro event. Lindsay, in the most competitive age group, placed 4th...and is tirelessly working her twisters..:) 16-18 divers - THREE NATIONAL QUALIFIERS Fledgling Brady Culver won his novice event although it did not appear on the results. That will be rectified. Brady received thirteen 5's in his debut! All his dives are new! Nice job! Our other fledgling, Rachel Dushman dove in regular Jr Olympic finished 4th, and impressed all with her surprise 2 1/2 sommy and some decent optionals for a newbie..:) She received one 7, five 6's and eight 5's for her efforts. The seasoned veteran's of the team did a commendable job, although they were too loud and not supportive enough (to the divers) during their event...and they know better. On a more positive note: You guys were super with the younger divers and your help was greatly appreciated. Managing to stay in the same time zone, Ryan and Matt won the synchro event...and..... The big story of the day was Matthew Flynn diving to Nationals for the first time, with a score of 377. 365 is qualifying on 1 meter....way to go Matt. (five 7's, seventeen 6's) Despite his great performance, Matt took second to teammate Ryan Shelley who had his best score ever enroute to his Nats qualifying score of 420.90. (three 8's, ten 7's, twelve 6's) Michelle Higgins put in a solid performance taking the gold in her event and qualified for the upteenth time for AAU Nationals. Michelle received four 7's, copious 6's (14) and scored 43.70 points for her 104B-forward double. Super job. Teammate Katie Vogel, did her job, placed 2nd, and had some decent scores - one 7, ten 6's and and his still working her way back into Nats-qualifying shape. Al in all, some great performances - we still need harder dives for most of you. Enjoy your progress and accomplishments, but remember, we will not stand still! Time to master your three meter lists for our upcoming meet at Holy Cross on Mothers Day, May 10th Suggestion: keep all your diving sheets...and let me know when you better your personal best!
