10 May 2009 - Mother's Day Meet
Wow! Just Wow! What a meet! As we come down
the stretch run of our 2008-2009 season, many have reached or surpassed goals
and your run for Nats....you have pushed and sacrificed and it shows! I think I
said it's 'rare that an entire group/team can put together a good meet'...but
collectively, we have put together a (small) string of great meets.
And our last Mother's Day Meet was the latest in
the string.
HEADLINES: Twenty two events -
We had ELEVEN 1st places!
We had divers in 13 events!
BADWEST/ZAP/RIPTIDE now has
NINE 2008-2009 AAU
NATIONAL QUALIFIERS
The latest being:
Lindsay Scuotequazza (14-15),
Elizabeth McQuaid (10-11),
Marina Bevacqua (10-11),
Paige Richardson (10-11)
Former qualifiers: 16-18 -
Ryan Shelley,
Michelle Higgins,
Matt Flynn,
Kim Yang and
Katie
Vogel (via h.s. score)
Lindsay
qualified with two personal best performances on 1 & 3 meter-gaining 3rd place
and 2nd respectively. Kim
took both boards in her 12-13 events- with personal best scores!
Michelle was incredibly
consistent with her personal bests on both boards - placing 1st on 3 mtr and 2nd
on 1 mtr. Paige
& Marina went
one-two respectively in both 10-11 year old contests..and still are looking
forward to qualifying up top. They missed 3 mtr qualifying score by single
digits! Both girls actually qualified in our last meet on 1 mtr also! With
the best twister in her age group and improving double
Elisabeth also
dived her way to Nationals at our meet in April.
Not
vying for Nationals but improving strongly in the novice 1 mtr and
developmental group we had -
Olivia Castro placing 2nd and improving her score by nearly 10 points
since our Spring Meet. Improving their scores by five points,
Ilana Heller and
Hanna Chen took 1st and
2nd respectively in their 10-11 novice contest. Seven & under
Calie Brady was awesome
and tied for 1st place with a personal best score of 50 points-9 more than her
last meet! eeeeehaaaaaa!
In
the novice 12-13 age group,
Jessica Langway
took 1st place, smashed her last meet score by 23 points, and established her
personal best with some super diving.
Adam Siddiqui won his contest with steadily improving doubles and
twisters. Steadily improving
Lauren Davis, diving against more experienced divers, placed 4th
(less than .5 out of 3rd) and bettered her previous score by over 10 points!
Congratulations to all divers...We are reaching for the
ZAP-Zenith-Apex-Pinnacle
of your diving season. With a couple of months remaining continue your
improvement and finish strong! The sky is the limit!
Collectively, we are looking strong and we will continue to learn new dives,
especially for you new developmental divers....National Qualifiers - keep a
consistent practice regimen and prepare to work hard and sacrifice if you plan
on going to Nats. Allow yourself to be GREAT!
While you may pat yourselves on the back for now, we
are not done! Someone out there is working harder than you! Click
